Where do you get protein?
Protein is made up of amino acids. All of the essential amino acids are present in fruits and vegetables.
The largest, in-depth study of the correlation between diet and health worldwide, The China Study, shows that the cultures which eat a plant-based diet, low in protein, have the greatest overall health and avoid diseases like cancer, heart disease and diabetes. These conditions are typical to western cultures where the diet is high in animal derived protein. The study even states that protein deficiency is only possible under circumstances of starvation where the total consumption of calories is deficient.
As infants, we are building our bodies at an incredibly rapid speed and we therefore need more protein during this period than we ever will later in life. However, only about 5% of total calories in human breast milk comes from protein. This is a clear indicator for our ideal consumption of this nutrient. Fruit also averages 5% of total calories from protein, with the addition of green leafy vegetables your total protein consumption will average around 10%. This has shown to be sufficient and there are multiple examples of people thriving athletically and building muscle on a Fruit-Vegan diet.

Do you not you get hungry?
Many people tell me that they tried eating just fruit for a day but that they felt hungry all the time. My initial reply is: How much did you eat? When we live on fruit, we need to eat larger volumes of food than we are used to on a cooked diet. This is because fresh fruit and vegetables have all their water and fibre still present within them and are therefore less calorie dense than processed foods.
Our body has receptors that tell us wether our meal fulfilled us or not, both in terms of volume, caloric density, nutrient content and sweetness.
In cooked foods, the ratio between volume and calories is often very dense compared to fresh foods. They often also fail to meet our requirement for sweetness, hence the invention of deserts. Today, so many high calorie, processed foods are available in tiny packages. These food-like items might satisfy our caloric requirements and our sweet-tooth but leaving us overweight, still hungry for nutrients.
The great news is that with fruit you can eat as much as you want.
Fruit is the only food which naturally satisfies all of our needs. When eaten in sufficient quantity, fruit comfortably fills up our stomach, meets our caloric requirements, nourishes our cells and leaves us with a sweet taste in our mouths.
Before I started living on fruit, I was constantly hungry. Even right after a meal, my stomach would be full but I would not feel satisfied. I would also get easy agitated between meals. I now understand that my body was starving for nutrients.
After a meal of sweet, juicy fruit I feel nourished and fulfilled and I have so much more energy and endurance.

What do you eat in a day?
A meal of fruit can be as simple or as complex as you make it. Some people like to make beautiful, gourmet fruit meals, others prefer the simplicity and ease of mono meals.
What I typically eat in a day depends very much on what is in season. In general I eat more juicy fruits, such as melons, in the summer and denser fruits, such as bananas and persimmons, in the winter.
I usually eat 3 or 4 meals a day. I prefer to eat monomeals, which means eating one type of fruit at the time.

A meal might be one out of the following :

- Half of a large watermelon
- 1-2 medium canary melons
- 4-5 medium mangoes
- 8 peaches/nectarines
- 7-10 bananas
- 10 oranges
- 7 medium persimmons
- 8 apples
- 2 big papayas
- 1-2 kg of grapes
- 2 avocados
What is your favorite fruit?
It is impossible to have just one! They all have their unique qualities, but here are my top favorites:

Chempedak
Durian

Litchie

Mango
Papaya
Persimmon

Plantain

Rollinia

Green Sapote

Where do you get fats?
All fruits and vegetables contain essential fatty acids. The fat content in most fruits average 5% of total calories. In addition there are a few fruits which are especially high in fat, such as the Avocado (60-80% fat) and Durian (20-30% fat).

Do you get bored of fruit?
With my hand on my heart, I can say that I fall deeper in love with fruit and this lifestyle each day. There are so many different fruits to choose from, each with their unique taste and texture. And so many more yet to discover! I always wake up excited about what I will have for breakfast and I go to bed satisfied. The more fruit you eat the better your ability to recognize good quality fruits will be. I always gently touch and smell each fruit before picking or buying it, making sure it is sweet and ripe. With experience you also learn how to plan and make sure there is always enough ripe fruit in the house. If I am in a situation with a poor fruit selection I get creative and make a new smoothie -or salad recipe!

Is it expensive to live on fruit?
Depending on where you live, produce can be expensive and in most places it will be more expensive than the standard diet. However, if we look at the larger picture, it might not be more expensive in the end.
Since I have been living on fruit I enjoy a much more clean and simplistic life and I no longer feel the need for, or buy :
- Drinks of any sort, soda, tea, coffee, processed juices etc.
- Oils, spices or 'superfoods'
- Treats, candy
- Hair, skin or beauty products, cosmetics, creams etc.
- Kitchen utilities
- Medical drugs of any kind

Another thing that will significantly help keep the cost down is getting your produce straight from the supplier.

Even if I spend more money of my food than the average person, I know it gives me vitality beyond what the average person in experiencing, which to me is absolutely worth it.

Fruit is your natural health insurance
- it pays off !

Isn´t it too much sugar ?
Refined sugar is, as any processed food, harmful to the body. It is not a whole food. This is true even for fructose.
However, the fruit sugar present within the whole, fresh fruit, it is a healthy and essential nutrient for our body. In fruit, the sugar is accompanied by and in perfect proportion to the water, fiber, protein, fat and other vitamins, minerals and all the other nutrients which make up the fruit and work together in our body.
Fruit is a perfect health food of the sweetest kind.

Are tomatoes and cucumbers fruits?
Yes. Fruit is the edible flesh around the seed of a plant. There are many non-sweet fruits, such as the tomato, cucumber, paprika, zucchini, squash and avocado. These fruits are great for when you want something savory. It needs to be mentioned that fruits of the night-shade family, such as tomatoes and peppers, do cause allergic reactions in many people.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you deal with social situations or going to a restaurant?
Social situations might feel like a challenge when you are first starting out on this lifestyle, but once you feel confident in yourself and know what you are doing, that is also what you will radiate to other people. I now see social events more as opportunities to share my experience (and fruits) with those who are interested. If I go out I bring my own fruit, most restaurants will not have a problem with this if you explain your situation in a nice and polite way. Instead of making it into something awkward, show how excited you are about this new lifestyle and how much you enjoy it and your positivity will rub off.

What exercise do you do?
I run because I really love running, especially in forests. I currently run about 5 miles 6 days a week, or I might do a day or two a week of intense sprinting. After my run I usually do some strength exercises, various core-workouts, push ups etc. I always make sure to do a lot of stretching after my exercise to increase flexibility and avoid soreness and injury.
